The very foundations of Rome were honor, courage, and duty. These virtues transferred themselves to the legionaire as he faced his enemy in battle. They became the most feared and respected military that the world had yet seen, the armies of Rome conquered and held sway over the western world for eight centuries. The Gladius and Pilum along with Roman armor equipped these armies which secured one of the greatest civilizations in history. In battle after battle, as depicted in the movie Gladiator, the Roman legonaire depended upon these weapons to secure both his life and victory. This is their legacy.
